PETER LANE CLAY
Peter Lane is a New York based artist, ceramicist and sculptor who is a luminary of contemporary ceramics. Despite finding his calling in ceramics relatively late in life, Lane has transcended the classic approach to pottery-making and made himself known as a revolutionary. With pieces that act as both works of fine art and anchors to interior spaces, Lane has set himself apart as a unique voice in the world of ceramics.
Lane is fascinated by Japan, and for many years he has worked on personalising traditional Japanese ceramic techniques. Using his own mix of sands, Lane developed a special clay in order to create unique pieces inspired by nature which can evoke birchwood, honeycomb, or scholar rocks sculpted by the flowing water of a river.
Lane’s creativity was first expressed through objects such as vases or lamps but has grown to include larger scale architectural pieces that are moulded, sculpted, fluted, and enamelled,
With installations the world over and an impressive clientele made up of leading designers and architects, Lane has imbued modern pottery with new life.
The quality of Lane’s work is appreciated by aesthetes and collectors all around the world, and his eminence was confirmed in 2009 when he was selected for the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and again in 2012 when he was commissioned by the Fondation Louis Vuitton to create a custom piece for them.
